BORROWINGS AS A FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MODERN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article examines the problem of the functioning of borrowed vocabulary in the modern Russian language in the context of globalization, digitalization, and the active development of international communication. The aim of the study is to identify the reasons for the spread of English-language borrowings, analyze the особенности of their adaptation, and determine their influence on the development of the lexical system of the Russian language.

The methodological basis of the research includes descriptive, comparative-analytical, contextual, and linguocultural methods. The research material consisted of examples of English borrowings functioning in Internet communication, mass media, advertising, educational and professional environments, as well as in youth slang.

The study found that borrowings are a natural result of language development and reflect modern social, cultural, and technological processes. It was revealed that Anglicisms are actively adapting to the phonetic, grammatical, and word-formation system of the Russian language and are becoming an integral part of contemporary speech practice. At the same time, excessive use of foreign words may lead to reduced comprehensibility of speech, displacement of native vocabulary, and weakening of the national and cultural specificity of the language.

The scientific value of the work lies in the comprehensive analysis of the functioning of English borrowings in modern communication. The practical significance of the study is determined by the possibility of using its results in the fields of teaching the Russian language, speech culture, linguistics, and sociolinguistics. The conclusion is made about the necessity of maintaining a balance between linguistic innovations and national language traditions.
