This article examines the linguistic and stylistic functions of paronymic attraction in paremiological units. The purpose of the study is to identify the stylistic potential of the phenomenon of paronymic attraction, which arises from the semantic convergence and parallel use of words that are similar in sound but different in meaning in Kazakh proverbs and sayings, sententious expressions, as well as certain didactic phraseological units, and to determine its role in enhancing the expressiveness and effectiveness of the text.
The research employs descriptive, comparative, semantic, and stylistic methods of analysis. In addition, a linguostylistic analysis was carried out on linguistic material selected from the corpus of proverbs and sayings, as well as from a number of fixed expressions.
The results of the study demonstrate that in paremiological units paronymic attraction performs several stylistic functions, including the creation of wordplay, the formation of sound harmony, the intensification of semantic contrast, and the production of an expressive effect. It has been established that the parallel use of words based on their phonetic similarity enhances the imagery of proverbs and sayings and increases their aesthetic and artistic expressiveness.
The conducted research allows the linguistic structure of paremiological units to be reconsidered from a new perspective and provides a scientific basis for identifying the functions of paronymic attraction in such linguistic units as authorial aphorisms and sententious expressions in the works of Kazakh writers and poets. The findings of the study can be applied in the fields of phraseology, stylistics, and text linguistics of the Kazakh language, as well as in the teaching of such university courses as Speech Culture, Stylistics, and Lexicology.
The conclusions obtained contribute to a deeper understanding of the expressive potential of paremiological units and help to reveal the linguistic features through which the national worldview is reflected in the Kazakh language.
