Abstract

The article presents the results of assessing the alignment of universal competencies of final-year students from pedagogical universities with the demands of their potential employ-ers. The research aimed to identify typical difficulties faced by students in implementing uni-versal methods of activity, as well as the factors influencing the effectiveness of students' demonstration of their universal competencies. Competency-based tasks, developed according to the requests of employers (representatives of school administrations) regarding the universal competencies of teachers, were used as the assessment tool. Employers represented three re-gions: Samara and Yaroslavl regions, and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra. All graduate students from three pedagogical universities operating in these regions participated in the assessment of universal competencies.

The study found that the demonstrated level of students' universal competencies is significantly lower than what is reflected in the employers' requirements. At the same time, students handled activities demonstrating various aspects of universal competencies with varying degrees of success. The analysis of the identified deficiencies in students' activities, along with the implemented approach to assessing universal competencies, can be used to en-hance the formation and evaluation of universal competencies in students pursuing higher ed-ucation programs in pedagogy.
