Abstract

The article is devoted to evaluating the efficiency of the steam-thermal recovery (STR) method under the conditions of developing heavy oil reservoirs at the Karazhanbas field. The study provides a detailed analysis of the operation of the steam generation plant and assesses the performance characteristics of the existing steam generator units, including both stationary and mobile types (UPG-50/6M, YZF, and YZG). Technological parameters of saturated steam generation and injection into the productive reservoir are considered, as well as the mechanism of viscosity reduction of the fluid to improve its filtration conditions.

Based on the theoretical principles of subsurface hydrodynamics and reservoir thermophysics, the high efficiency of the applied equipment is confirmed, demonstrated by improved filtration conditions, increased oil recovery factor, and stabilization of oil production during the late stages of field development. In addition, the article addresses issues related to improving the reliability of steam generation systems, reducing specific energy consumption, and optimizing steam injection operating regimes, which enhances the economic efficiency of the thermal recovery process.

In the context of the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is shown that the modernization of steam generation systems directly contributes to the introduction of energy-efficient technologies and innovative infrastructure (SDG 9), ensures the rational and responsible development of depleting hydrocarbon reserves (SDG 12), and also promotes more efficient use of energy resources and reduction of technological losses in the oil and gas industry.
