Abstract

The article describes the intensity of the demographic development of the city of Uralsk in the post-war years. Over the years, the socio-demographic development of the city of Uralsk, the center of West Kazakhstan, has changed. While positive changes were reflected in the indicators of population growth in the post-war years, the decline in mortality determined the nature of the population. Changes in the ethnic structure of the population during the period under review contributed to a decrease in the share of the Kazakh population in the city. In the post-war years, such cities as Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktobe, Pavlodar began to develop rapidly, and some cities were emerging. The city of Uralsk was also considered one of the most powerful cities in the western region of the country, which strengthened the pace of industrial development. The city of Uralsk was distinguished from other cities of western Kazakhstan by the fact that the population growth was due to natural growth. The population growth of the neighboring cities of Atyrau and Aktobe in the period from 1946 to 1989 increased mainly due to mechanical growth. The population of Uralsk increased by 29.5% during the period under review. In the pre-war period, the population growth of Uralsk was 6.4%. These indicators prove that the direction of demographic development of the city of Uralsk in 1946-1989 was high.
