SOCIO-POLITICAL ACTIVITIES OF SAGYNDYK DOSZHANOV IN 1917–1920

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the socio-political activities of Sagyndyk Doszhanov, one of the representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia of the early twentieth century, during the post-revolutionary period, specifically following the February and October Revolutions of 1917 and throughout the years of the Russian Civil War. Sagyndyk Doszhanov's active socio-political career began after the February Revolution of 1917. He participated in the Turgai Regional Congress as well as the First and Second All-Kazakh Congresses and was among their organizers. As a member of the commission responsible for organizing the Second All-Kazakh Congress, he worked closely with the leaders of the Alash movement and actively contributed to discussions concerning the establishment of Kazakh national statehood.During the Russian Civil War, Sagyndyk Doszhanov, together with Khalel and Zhahansha Dosmukhamedov, participated in organizing the Western Branch of the Alash Orda government. However, due to the changing military and political situation during the Civil War, he, like a number of other representatives of the Alash movement, joined the Soviet side. From that period onward, he served in Soviet state institutions. Nevertheless, during the party purges of the 1920s and 1930s, he became a victim of political repression. The scientific novelty of this study lies in its examination of previously unexplored aspects of Sagyndyk Doszhanov's socio-political activities and in its assessment of his contribution to the collective efforts of the Kazakh national intelligentsia striving to restore Kazakh statehood. The study employs comparative historiographical and source-based methods of analysis. In addition, the views and conclusions of previous researchers have been taken into consideration.The findings provide new information on previously little-known aspects of Sagyndyk Doszhanov's socio-political activities. These results may contribute to further research on the history of the Alash movement, including its regional characteristics.
