Abstract

The article examines the socio-political activities of the members of the Alash movement, in particular the Western Department of the Alashorda, brothers Gubaydolla and Aliaskar Alibekov, during 1917–1919. It highlights their active participation in the Alash movement after the revolution, the organization of nationwide and regional Kazakh congresses, as well as their direct involvement in the establishment of the Western Department of the Alashorda. The aim of the study is to determine the role of the Alibekov brothers in organizing the Alash movement and its Western Department, their activities during the Soviet period, and their contribution to the formation of Kazakh statehood. The research employs the historical-comparative method, source analysis, the study of archival materials, and the works of Alash studies scholars. As a result, the main stages of the socio-political activities of the Alibekov brothers were identified, including their participation in the Alash movement, their contribution to organizing nationwide and regional congresses, as well as their persistence in defending national interests under Soviet rule. The scholarly value of the article lies in the reinterpretation of previously known data and the comprehensive presentation of the historical role of these figures. The findings can be applied in teaching the history of Kazakhstan, fostering national consciousness and patriotism, and studying the regional characteristics of the Alash movement.
