Abstract

The prevalence of echinococcosis among domestic animals and dogs has been studied. Echinococcosis is a dangerous helminthiasis of humans and animals caused by tapeworms (Echinococcus granulosus). Treatment in humans is only surgical and expensive, and it also causes enormous economic damage to livestock. According to the WHO classification, echinococcosis is included in the list of most common diseases and in many countries is part of national programs for disease elimination. Annual costs for patient treatment and livestock losses are estimated at 3 billion USD. Kazakhstan, including the West Kazakhstan region, is considered unfavorable for echinococcosis in stationary terms. Over the past 8 years, 108 cases of larval echinococcosis were detected in the WKR, of which 11.1% were children under 14 years old.
